Nun – Evoke The Sleep

Nun are a post-punk synth group from Melbourne and one of Australia’s best bands. Fronted by vocalist Jenny Branagan with a squad of synths and drum machines manned by Tom Hardisty, Steven Harris and Hugh Young.

Jenny provided a guest vocal on Miles Brown’s Control from Séance Fiction, released in December. That record is a must listen, along with Karli White’s new remix of Control. She is also in Vacuum with Andrea Blake from Chrome Dome and ASPS.

Nun’s self-titled debut from 2014 is a blistering onslaught of beats, heavy synths and otherworldly atmospheres. Some of the most righteous Australian music of this decade. I was thrilled to finally see them live at At First Sight Festival at Carriageworks in Sydney last November. Evoke The Sleep is my favourite of their tracks and it was delivered with all expected force.
