Lucy Cliché – Drain Down

Lucy Cliché is the solo techno project of Lucy Whelan, founding member of the much loved Naked On The Vague with Matthew Hopkins. The duo now produce experimental drone music in Half High, and Lucy is also in the occasionally appearing Knitted Abyss with Anna John from Holy Balm.

Originally from Sydney and now based in Melbourne, Lucy followed Picture Yourself (2013) with Drain Down through Noise In My Head in February 2015. Her sound has moved from pop/post-punk/no wave for a heavier, industrial form of dance and techno, with relentless arpeggiated synths, electronic noise and reverberated, disembodied vocals.

Her set was a major highlight from At First Sight at Carriageworks on November 14, 2015. A full table of gear and an enthusiastic (former) hometown crowd in support. There were tracks from Drain Down along with new material. As ever, I’m looking forward to her next release.
