22. WHATISPSYCH (Octopus Pi Compilation)

WHATISPSYCH is a compilation I’ll be spinning on my record player in 20 years, smoking a luxurious pipe in some presumably tweed jacket on a balcony overlooking my gardens at the foot of towering mountains, thinking back to those heady days of Sydney’s music scene before the swinging 2020s.  More like it I say!  This is why I compulsively snatch up local vinyl releases … and the collection grows admirably.

Octopus Pi, an amorphous enterprise involved in curating events and championing underground musicians and artists, directed by Kimberley Galceran, have contrived to bring together a shining selection of fantastic Sydney groups on a double LP, the first release on Octopus Pi Records and the parting act of Megaphon Studios.  Sunrise, sunset.  It was recorded in September and October 2012 … produced by Kimberley Galceran, with co-engineers James Domeyko, Laurence Williams and Bill Johnston.

Featuring in the alphabetical: Broadcasting Transmitter, Dead China Doll, Dead Radio, East River, God K, Lyyar, Making, Nhomea, No Art, Psychlops Eyepatch & Roboter Haus.

This is a batty collection of bands.  Rumours of this project have been circulating and it’s so great to see it all manifest in the real.  I’ve ordered my copy of the vinyl, which comes with immediate download (obviously) and the promise of an art-zine about the project.  Check out the trailor below and have a listen to the record, order your copies and keep in touch with us for updates about the Sydney and Melbourne launches in December.
